How To Layer Stylishly for Beginners: 3 Tips

Hi lovelies, it is that time of year again where knitwear just doesn’t do the job and we need to go a further step with layering. I have struggled with layering in the past and many times I’ve just ended up looking and feeling like a stuffed toy. Lately, I seem to be getting it right quite a bit and thought to share a few tips with you. As I experiment more, I’d be sure to share with you 🙂

  1. Colours: Layering is easiest when you’re working with different shades of one colour. I always go for the rust, camel, coffee and black blend because I believe its super easy to pull off and really aesthetically pleasing as a whole. Other combinations to try include black, white and khaki; camel, navy and blue denim etc.
  2. Textures: Layering is all about the textures. Switch it up a bit with some leather, lace or even faux fur. If you’re going safe with just knitted fabrics, try different yarn textures and sizes. Maybe a ribbed knit with a boucle or chunky knit.
  3. Silhouettes: It’s all about being creative with the pieces you’re throwing together. My go-to look is throwing anything sleeveless over a long sleeve polo neck. The innermost layer should be the lightest (to avoid bulkiness) and can be built up from there. Generally, the idea is to have a portion of the inner garment come through giving a more interesting outlook.

I hope you find these tips helpful! For this look, I’ve worn a high neck jumper with a slip dress and pleated skirt. Accessorising with a waist belt and cross body, I’ve worn strappy heels for some extra drama.
